Ways to help the museum

Introduction

The Freeman Army Airfield Museum is dedicated to preserving,  protecting, and displaying artifacts from the Freeman Army Airfield from  its inception in 1942 until it was closed at the end of 1946.  We hope  that you have been inspired by this website and would like to help us  preserve this piece of history about Seymour.  There are three distinct  ways that you can become personally engaged in this effort.

Your Time:

The Freeman Army Airfield Museum is run by a  small group of  volunteers who have created the exhibits, act as docents  for museum  visitors, and participate in community events. We take  traveling  exhibits to the county fair, drive our 1942 Ford/American  LaFrance fire truck in parades, and  give talks to schools, assisted  living facilities, and other  organizations, etc.  We are always  interested in talking to you about  becoming a museum volunteer.

There  are no special skills  required to be a volunteer.  We just need people  who are willing to help  on a part-time basis to keep this treasure a  part of our community.  If  you wish to become a museum volunteer,  please call the museum at (812)  271-1821, or stop by for a visit on  Saturday morning.

Your Money:

The Freeman Army Air Field Museum, Inc., our legal name for tax-reporting purposes, is a federally-recognized 501(c)3 charity, so your gifts are tax deductible.  However, the museum receives no federal or state funds.  We gratefully acknowledge the support provided by the Airport Authority and several local organizations.  Nevertheless, individual donors are our biggest source of operating funds.

Indirectly

The Kroger Community Rewards program is an ideal way to support your favorite non-profit or charity organization. The program allocates funds to participating organizations based on the purchases that registered members, family and friends of the organization have made at Kroger using their Kroger Plus card. Please enroll your Kroger Plus or Jay-C Plus Card online at the Kroger secure website, www.krogercommunityrewards.com and then choose the Freeman Army Air Field Inc. as your favorite charity.

Your Artifacts:

You can either donate or loan artifacts to the museum.  To arrange to loan or donate an item, please contact the museum at (812) 271-1821.    We try to answer all calls in person, but if you don’t get an answer, please leave your name and phone number.  Someone will contact you shortly.
